This particular chanter is manufactured from African Blackwood and is fitted with an Imitation Ivory Sole.
African Blackwood (Mpingo) which comes from Africa as the name implies, it’s a very dense wood and takes at least 80 years to grow. History has shown that African Blackwood is the preferred and, most popular wood for musical instruments but it is also the most expensive, due to its high demand, and availability. All Gibson practice chanters come with our very popular custom engineered synthetic reed for greater quality of sound and longevity, although these practice chanters will sound great with most makes of reeds.
